Trying Film For The First Time

After nabbing my nifty Olympus OM-10 off ebay for only a few quid, I’ve discovered that using film is actually pretty awesome. It allows you to understand the importance of how to preserve the film that you have left and how to use it efficiently. With my D80, there’s none of that rubbish - you get as many as you can in the time that you have. There’s no file limits to worry about on film, there’s no downloading and editing and then tweaking it to make that perfect picture.

It’s just so effortless on film, it’s just point, focus and pressing the shutter. ISO isn’t an issue for me. I just set for 200 and that’s all that seems to work for me. I know people who go nuts and start spinning around in circle shouting, what’s with all this noise! I can see why people change back to film now that I’ve started using it.

I recommend  (if you have some time & money to spare) you go on ebay, and take a look at some camera’s. Quickly flickr search the model and see if you like the results. I’d go for a 35mm camera, otherwise you’ll be stick in the world of medium format. (which is fine) - but hefty on the wallet to process.

Update: Charlie has a nice article on it too here.
